Sound card - PCI CMedia CMI8738 chip?

You usually see this thing on motherboards that have a chip for Onboard sound. The MIDI is only software, but who actually used MIDI? The sound quality is fairly decent for what it is, and it does A3D 1.0 Emulation, should you want it.

My MB has it on-board, and I like it. The Win2K driver is good (WDM, no bullshit), and it's said to have 4-speaker support (I don't have the appropriate connector though).

I agree there too. I have had it going in basically every OS and it hasn't flinched once. It does have excellent, easy to install drivers, and they are stable. And I have tried the 4 speaker thing, and it does work pretty good. Not as good as the SB Live! or Vortex 2, but for something onboard, its pretty good.

Thanks, everybody. I originally wanted to buy a bunch of cheap SB Live! cards for max compatibility and min problems, but I'm constrained by our corporate structure. I noticed that at least CMedia seems to support DOS, Linux, and every version of Windows.
