right know, it's not either or for me. more out of curiosity, i was wondering: some integrated audio chipsets take a lot of resource from the cpu. let's say 10%. if i had a dual core, would one processor be running a game and the other running everything else? (like im, firefox, the integrated audio)

what are you going to be replacing with the dual core? If you're running a FX-57 at 2.8+ ghz, then I would keep it. If you're running a Celeron, then go for it!

I can't find the link, but I'm pretty sure that integrated sound only causes 3-5% performance decrease compared to a separate sound card. I'd go with the X2.

Oh yea, and yes the second core would handle IM, Firefox, your firewall, anti-virus, anti-spyware, etc. while the other core would play your game smoothly.
