Sound Card making high pitch noises HELP!

I installed a Gravis Xterminator (USB) gamepad and my sound was working fine (I think) then i went to play a game and turned the volume up and all i get is a high pitched noise. Anyone know what can cause this??

do you know what brand/model your sound card is?

It is a Sound Blaster PCI512 sound card. And this is the first problem i've had w/ it besides i can hear static when i move my mouse.
