Sound Card Installation Trouble

For a friend I'm installing a Vortex2 sound card. I disabled the onboard sound in the bios. OH, it'a a HP 9220, 900 Celery,
256 ram, with Windows ME(so it says on the splash screen). Windows sees the new card, but can't find the drivers on it's own. I tried manually and it tells me no software found for this card. When I try the setup from the disk nothing opens. Any ideas. I did notice nothing about WinME in the manual. Only 95x,2000, and NT.
Any insight on this...

ALSO: If the problem is WinME, Can I install Win98 over WinME???

not if you want a working system!
have you looked on the soundcard makers website for a ME driver?

I'm stumped...I tried the drivers and I get the same, the needed software cannot be found...
any ideas?

I've heard bad things about Vortex2 and ME, but I know it works ok in 98 and XP. Drivers for XP are included in the OS.
I'd suggest you go back to 98 (or better yet, go to XP).

You won't believe this...or you will
The manual and drivers were for the 2500
so hmmm I checked the card and
IT WAS THE 1500
all systems go
2 hours farting around
live and learn

thanks everyone
