Sound card in AMR slot?

I notice these are called *AUDIO* modem risers...

Does this mean I can put a sound card in them? You know, better than AC97 but cheaper than a high-end card?

do such beasts exist?
 
Not really much point.
AMR slots just provide the connectors for the Audio/Modem codecs in the south bridge.

Since the AC97 Audio already has connectors in the ATX bracket, there isn't much point in using the AMR for them as well.

Having said that, yes it is possible, but it will be the same codec driving the AMR card as drives the ATX Audio ports, so it's pointless.

I guess i forgot that the point of AMR was to let the CPU do all of the work. Too bad more mobo's don't integrate slightly superior sound, i've read that AC97 can put a noticeable hurt on your performance.
 
I use AC97 and it's not that bad, but not great either.
For the price involved I'd like to see mobo manufacturers integrate some sort of PCI sound chip...I'd be willing to pay an extra $3 for my motherboard to have that as a back up.
 
umm. you could possibly run into problems.
try it, and if your comp. starts bitching, go out and get somethin' else.

me too, i mean you're going to pay like $20 + pci slot for the cheapest soundcard you can get anyways, so any kind of on-board has to be better
