I posted a thread last week asking how to install windows xp on a vista preloaded machine, well thanks for the help and I did it.
Now, I have a even bigger problem than just installing xp.

Let me start with my computer Model.
I have a gateway, GM5638E, windows xp.

I updated the bios to the newest editon only to find my sound driver stopped working.(Sigmatel)
I tried ALL the drivers and yet, it wasnt able to turn on. So I thought okay, let me recover the bios to the previous version.
So i tried to rollback from windows but failed.
So i read on intel's website and it says i can unplug the pin and recover it.
My dumbass pulled out the pin and put it back onto the wrong location(front fan control instead of the bios control).

needless to say, the motherboard caught on fire and burned one of the transistors. I saw the fire and thought it was game over for me.

magically, after putting the pin back, the mother board still works!

Now my problem is that how can i fix the sound card driver, or rollback the bios.(I tried the battery thing as well)

Presumably you are trying to use the integrated on-board sound.
1. I would not be mess'n with the Bios. (If your that desperate for XP then buy a machine that is known to be XP backwards compatible; ie, a model where the XP drivers are available as download from the Gateway website.)
2. Verify what the transistor that blew does. Hopefully it is just part of the power management for the front fan & if so you can work around that.
3. In general, the audio driver for the MB is on a disk that comes with your machine. After loading the OS you need to load (in this order) the chipset, SATA, Video drivers then try the audio driver. If you do not have a driver disk for your MB then try to obtain it from gateway or the MB manufacturer
4. If all else fails then just install a sound card.

are you talking about a bios/cmos reset back to you old settings - or did you install/update/flash a new bios version and try to put the old bios version back on your board?

In case of CMOS *settings* check your manual for what jumper you need to set...in case for bios check motherboard/vendor site or google, i am sure there is a way to get an old bios back on your board.

The best you probably can do regarding the transistor is connect the front fan (or a fan) onto the MB connector & see if it works. If it does not then actually that's good because then only the front fan circuit has been taken out & you can just buy a repacement fan with a connector that runs off the power supply. Otherwise, we dont know what the transistor that has blown does, but now you no doubt have permanently lost/damaged some functionality & this will eventually be ascertained during making the system operational.

The "!" next to the soundcard means that this device is not working or installed properly. Presumably you are using the onboard integrated sound chip so make sure that the onboard sound is set to enable in the system BIOS. After boot up, go to the line item in DM with the "!" & uninstall it then reboot. In this way sometimes windows, when it reinstalls the hardware, installs it correctly especially if the correct software driver has been loaded. If you still get the "!" then my guess is you have a software driver load order dependency & you'll have to experiment by loading the various hardware devices & drivers such as chipset, video, modems, extension utilities, media control panels, etc.

Again, if worse comes to worst, then you can always buy an inexpensive PCI sound card.
