Sound Card Advice Needed!

i'm constructing a new system, one of its primary uses is for music, so i need a soundcard! Im looking for something cheap, with good sound quality, 4 channel is unimportant.. i kinda want to avoid a sblive if at all possible....

JCobra14, if you're looking for cheap but good, check out this AOpen soundcard. Tough to beat for $26. Do a search here on Anandtech and you'll find numerous posts singing its praises.

I've used that AOpen Yamaha card in a system for a friend. Very nice card for dirt cheap. You can get the OEM version with no optical out for $15 @ Mwave

hm, SOUND BLASTER PCI? 🙂 😉?

it runs for about 25-30 dollars.. and is A gGREAT card... i don't have it in now, but my dads work has it, and the computer that i built for my gram has it, i highly recommend it to people looking for a cheap sound card with decent Quality! 🙂

I've never tried the Aopen.. I'm guessing it's the same card as the Guillemont MUSE though (well, same basic chipset). If you want to stick to buying things retail the MUSE is about 30 bucks at Worst Buy.

I have a 4 year old Yamaha Chipset Sound Card, bought it for $27 back in '97. Works Great. I just bought a bundle from mwave.com, for $85 i got an Aopen 12x dvd player, a new Yamaha sound card, and Yamaha Speakers. The sound is very crisp, and so is the money in my pocket that I saved. I say, if you want good quality at half the cost, go w/ the yamaha sound cards; they have a good working record and are dirt cheap.

ack well my Aopen 724 yamaha, im using in this system (not my music system), just croaked, it wont POST with the card in... running on my 686A southbridge sound 😱(

guess thats unrelated, lol
