Hi,
Have had Asus P5WD2 up and running for some time. Performance, IMHO, is quite good. It's capabilities as a motherboard exceed mine as a user. My first build though.
However, problems with the onboard RealTek audio caused me disable it in BIOS an add a SB Audigy card. This was a problematic for a while since I could never boot as long as the card was in it's slot (or any other slot) Would hang just prior to XP flash screen. In own simplistic way, overcame problem by process of elimination. Made a list of all settings in BIOS and enabled or disabled each in turn then tried to boot again w/SB card.
Found that I could boot normally to XP Pro if and only "if" I disabled USB 2.0 support (don?t get the connection). Could then move on to a normal boot to the OS. The Audigy CD would then detect the card and load the drivers. Ended up with good, reliable, trouble free sound. BTW, tried a SB Live with same results.
Have overcome the tradeoff of USB 2.0 support for sound by adding a SIIG Combo card with USB 2.0 and Firewire support. Would still like to take advantage of USB 2.0 support. All those USB ports on the mobo with only Legacy 1.0 support offends my sense of value.
The question is .......anyone know of a way to have:
RealTek Audio =disabled
Audigy Soundcard=installed
USB 2.0 Full Speed=enabled
Could I possibly enable 2.0 in XP without it being enabled in BIOS?
Probably something I?ve missed. If already covered in either this forum or the P5WD2 Premmie forum, please advise.
Thanks,
Don
