Sound Blaster ZXR UEFI problems?

I am considering getting a Sound Blaster ZXR, but I note that many owners of this card say that Windows sometimes drops recognition of the card requiring those who experience this problem, to shut the computer down, pull the power plug, let the system sit, then power up again.

According to Creative Lab's tech support, this is because the ZXR is not supported when booting UEFI.

Is there anyone here who has experienced this?

Thanks.

Thanks for your reply. It is helpful for me to know that you are not having problems.

Here is a link to a Creative Labs support forum post that reiterates what I said. - http://forums.creative.com/showthread.php?t=709614&p=611471&viewfull=1#post611471

Perhaps there is something going on in some cases that is not well understood.

Looks like it might be a problem with the fastboot option. Considering fastboot is currently broken on my MS Surface, I'm not too surprised. I don't think I've ever enabled fastboot on my desktop, so maybe that's why I've never had an issue.

Thanks everyone. To be honest, I was not aware of this option. I have an HTPC (not the machine where I will put this sound card) that I have booting UEFI, and in the bios, I have an ASRock FM2A88X Extreme6+, I have "Fast Boot" enabled, and this is fast enough. I'll have to check to see if "Fast Boot" is also enabled in Windows.

The machine I will put this in is running an ASRock X79 Extreme6 running Win 7. I do not have that booting UEFI at this point, but I am considering an upgrade to Win 10, and I may convert it at that point. If I have any problems, then I could just turn off "Fast Boot" in 10. I am not in front of my machine, but it does appear that this MB does have some sort of "Instant Boot" option, but it does not look like it has a bios setting for it - though I'll have to check my machine.

Maybe the people that have experienced that problem are not at the "enthusiast" level. 🙂
