Sound Blaster problems (again)....

Hi,

I'm having problems with my SB16 PnP ISA sound card on my KT7-RAID running Win2k. Before I was having poping problems which were solved by removing the 16-bit DMA (solution got from the FAQ). However now after about 2-10 mins of a constant sound buffer being open (WinAmp, Quake3, etc..) it suddenly starts outputing a loud static noise (like when a TV isn't tuned on a channel). I then can't hear any of what is supposed to be outputed. Closing the sound buffer, restarting it fixes it until the next time (i.e. pressing stop, then play in WinAmp). Does anyone know what I can do to fix this problem?
It apears as if this sudden surge of static isn't infact random gibberish but the sound it should be outputting, just REALLY loud. If I set the volume bar in WinAmp to full before the problem happends (and adjust the levels in Windows volume control so it's at a normal volume), then when the problem happends if I reduce the volume in WinAmp it returns to sort of normal (there is a bit of hissing here and there).
I think that the problem happends when some other program tries to use sound.

Does anyone know how i could fix this? OR should I just get a new sound card?

Thanks

I would get a better card like SBLive, especially since you have a good system I notice the improvement even from a SB128 PCI soundcard to SBLive.

Could be the ASP chip is dying...? Or a driver issue, if you have the latest drivers then try going backward (if possible...). Oh BTW are you using the native W2K drivers??? If so get the newest... Or better yet Mem said it the right way (SB live value...)

Erk, where would I get the newer drivers? When I first got Win2k the only drivers for the SB16 that were available were the MS Win2k ones. Creative seemed not to support the SB16.

I'm fairley reluctant to spend £50 on a new sound card because there are more deserving things, but I obviously will need to get one if this can't be fixed.

Chuck, I purchased my SBLive value from here ,I to live in London, anyway drivers are pretty hard to find for your Win2000 (SB16 wise) since I `ve checked at Creative website fromhere so it`s down to either a new soundcard or try to fix your problem.

Dabs is good for free P&P, 4 years old(LOL..) I think it`s time for a upgrade The sound quality will make a big difference especially in games once you hear it you will not go back to boring SB16, plus only 1% load on CPU as well, btw I had one years ago.
