I have a Live Platinum 5.1

The Live Platinum is a very good card. Pretty much all the cards live series are. But unless you find a good deal, The Live Value is *way* more than just adequate [edit follows] for the price.

Since we lost all the msgs posted today, I am going to post my question in this thread again...

Rakkis:

I am trying to figure out if I can hook up a Live 5.1 card to a dolby digital ready receiver, and still get full dolby digital sound... However a dolby digital receiver only takes 6 channels discrete inputs... Does your Live 5.1 platinum has 6 channel output? cuz I believe all Live 5.1 cards does dolby digital decoding thru software, right?

Where can one get the Live! retail or Live! Value retail at a good price ?

I can't find it on search engines: CNET, PriceGrabber, MySimon, etc.

Thanks !

:)

I have the original Platinum, and find the connectors at the front very useful, I also use the optical output with my Videologic DigiTheatre.

BCYL:

You have the option to output to a 5.1 decoder, by still using the yellow digital output on the live's card.

With the newer Sb Live 5.1, it can now do internal 5.1 decoding, where the 6 channels are outputted through three jacks in the back, one the these jacks is the yellow digital out.

So basically, the yellow digital out has a dual use.

AMB:

Thanks for your info! But I have one more question... How does the 3 jacks in the back output the 6 channels? Does each of them split into 2 plugs, thus getting a total of 6 for the 6 discrete channel inputs? Thanks again!

Yes, that is how it happens, the jacks are stereo, hence, having 2 channels / jack

Thanks a million AMB! You don't know how long I have been looking for that answer!

Also, since the Live 5.1 card does dolby digital decoding with software, did you notice any slowdown in your PC when the card is decoding?

I cant answer that question as I do not have the card, I just know that piece of information.

I have the normal Platinum and use external decoding with a Videologic DigiTheatre
