I was wondering I have a set of Altec Lansin ACS-56 speakers. They have a SPDIF connection on them. If I use the digital out on the Live, will that support all 4 speakers with that one connection.

I don't know, but you cannot go far by trying, the Sb Live states that it does output the 4 channels through the sp/dif.

the Live! works with five speakers (Cambridge DTT2500), so I'm sure it will work

Only if you have the Live! with a standard spdif connector. The xgamers/mp3's/latest value and such come with a mini din spdif that only works with FPS speaker packages. It is proprietary. If you have an RCA type spdif out on your live or daughter card you are all set.

You sure it wont work, even with an adapter to SPDIF. Also, if not where can you find one of the old ones?

What connector have you got? If you're talking about the yellow 3.5mm digital jack on the back then yes, this will do 4 channels. It is just a stereo jack (like headphones) but each channel transmits a digital signal (which is also stereo), hence you get four channels.

Same with RCA out's. If there's two of them you've got 4 channels, if there's just the one then you've only got 2 channels.

5.1 is done on a single RCA using AC3 decoding as opposed to PCM which is what all the above is about. AC3 puts 5 channels of sound onto one connector. The sub is worked out by the decoder (I think?)

The acs56 speakers dont support dolby digital. They support PCM stereo for the front speakers only.
So basically your going to get digital audio from the front speakers only, and not from all 4 speakers.

The cambridge fps2000 support 4 speaker dolby digital, but a lot of people complain about hissing when connecting them through the s/pdif connector.
