Sound Blaster Live! and Windows 2k Pro <<<--- Problems?

Spooner

Lifer
I just upgraded to Win2k.

I reinstalled the disc that came with my sound blaster live! card. I'm only getting sound out of one speaker (i have the klipsch 4.1 pro media set) and the Creative AudioHQ will not run (keeps not reponding).

Anyone running Win2k with SB Live! How do you get sound out of all your speakers?

thanks ~

I've been running my SBLIVE on win2k for years without problems

In order to get sound out of all 4 speakers, you need to enable 4 speaker output in audio HQ...but if audio HQ won't run, then you're out of luck

My suggestion would be to uninstall the sound card as well as all sblive software...and then reboot and let it re-detect it the card...then start again from scratch

When I click on AudioHQ to start the program.... the little hourglass shows for a second like it's going to load, then nothing happens.

What the hell is up with that?

(all of this ran completely fine under win98se)

Have you done this yet?

Did all that.

Same problem. AudioHQ doesn't feel like starting up and I'm getting sound out of only one speaker.

ARGGHH this is annoying. Help!

well, 4 speakers isn't going to work until AudioHQ gets fixed

as far as sound out of only 1 speaker...i'd blame the jack on the back...have you tried wiggling it around and seeing if "stereo" all of a sudden starts?

Did you try changing the PCI slot? Make sure you remove the drivers first though, I have heard win2k assigns different priorities to the IRQs based on PCI slot position but i've never noticed. I'm running win2kpro with sblive 5.1 and the only time i had trouble was when i moved PCI slots for my slotfan. Also r u using the CD drivers or the ones off of Creative's site?

Ok.... it was definitely a loose wirer causing the one speaker thing... that's solved.

What the hell is up with AudioHQ not working? That wouldn't be a driver issue, would it? I'm using drivers installed off the cd, cuz creative only has driver updates for Win XP, not 2k.

This has to be a win2k thing, since I had all this working fine when I had win98se installed.

😱

I can't find how to download LiveWare!3.0

the website keeps saying i have to order a CD (the stupidest thing i've ever heard)

am i blind?

btw -- thanks for the continued help 😎

Wow, creative has apparently decided to screw over LIVE! users by not letting you download it.

I found links to other sites that offer it..but i'm not sure if it's win2k-specific

I have it on my machine though...if want to just private message me and let me know how i could send it to you..we could just do it that way

Woo Hoo!!!! thanks a lot sohcrates for all your help ~~~~~

Creative, you suck for taking LiveWare off your website and making me spend hours fixing what should have been a 2 minute fix.

Thats why I'll never buy a Creative card again - having to buy a CD to get their card working is a disgrace! They did say that the drivers were still available on the website but nearly every link is broken.

I can only hope that other hardware manufacturers don't follow Creatives lead and all start doing this.

actually Mitzi, the lw3 for win98 & win2k is still available on the web for download though not at the creative site. 🙁

Yeah, the card must have came with an older version of Live!Ware (i didn't happen to notice which one)

That's true, bacillus, that you can get it elsewhere, but the mere fact that you have to go somewhere else to get the friggin thing to work with a newer OS doesn't make ANY sense.

Creative, you truly suck, in my eyes now...

That bites! I had the page bookmarked. Good thing I had downloaded them. No more creative products for me!:|

I had similar problems with my SB Live when going from Win98 to Win2k. My solution? I got rid of the card and actually downgraded to an SB 16. Since I use headphones for listening to mp3s and some gaming, it's no biggie. Plus, I'm upgrading the machine soon anyway.

I've given Creative enough money over the last 10 years, but they are no longer an option for me. I won't buy another Creative product.

Yay, so many smart people in here 🙂

I suggest next time you want a product, give your money to a company that deserves it. Voyetra, Hercules, Phillips, and Aureal would have been in this list if Creative didn't kill them.

We can't support companies that once they take our money turn their backs on us. We can't blindly buy their newest products expecting things to change magically. Creative's support has sucked for years and it appears they don't feel like changing that policy.. why should they, they don't have any REAL competition.. though the others are nipping at their heels a lot more closely than in the past.

Sorry you guys have so many problems with your cards, best of luck with the drivers. At least other sites have more ethics than creative actually does.

Don't over do it fellas. The latest drivers for W2k/XP with the Surround Mixer and AudioHQ are there for download. What else do you need? LiverWare! is still available from some sites though but who really wants it? The rest of the package is just subpar bundleware crap like most of the accessories that come with Windows.

bacillus : Yeah, I'm sure that Liveware is available else where on the net, but thats hardly the point - the point is Creative are not supporting their [/b]own[/b] products.

Auric : I agree that Liveware is bloated crap and not really worth the effort. However, the point I am making about Creative is that they are forcing people into buying a CD if you want the software which supports their hardware, even after we have paid good money for the hardware in question.

Edit: It looks like they've fixed a lot of the links since I last tried about 3 weeks ago so I've removed a good chunk of my whinge!
