Sound Blaster Improvement?

I have a Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 sound card and, although it performs well, it's getting a little old. I was looking at the Audigy 2 ZS from Creative, and have read a few mixed reviews.

What do people here think about the card? Any success stories from anyone migrating from 5.1 to the Audigy 2 ZS? Any other sound card recommendations?

I went from an oldskool Live! to the Audigy 2 ZS without any problems and noticed a good improvement in SQ. Very worth it to me.

I'm not a big fan of creatives drivers, but you might want to look into something based on the Via Envy 24 HT-S chips you can get fairly cheap ones that perform well. I'm aslo a big fan of the TB Santa Cruz but its a bit dated now. Audigy 2 ZS prob. isn't necessary, you could just go w/ a plan Audigy 2 if you go creative. Hope this helps... 🙂

I went to an Audigy 2 from a Live!, and honestly I can't tell any difference in sound quality or anything else (they both sound good). I guess the Audigy has much lower CPU utilization though. One irritating thing with the Audigy 2 (at least with mine) is you HAVE to use the install CD before updating drivers from the web. I tried using only the stuff on the web, and it caused me problems trying to run games. The Audigy 2 has even more bloated drivers than the Live! did.
