Sound Blaster Audigy

Okay guys, what do we know about the above sound card? As a digimusician and hardcore gamer this card is of very high interest to me judging by it's specs, but I want to hear from anyone who knows anything more - is it available anywhere yet? What's the price (for the EX version) and has anyone found a review anywhere?

Thanks!

The EX looks to be very promising, but it's priced very high (by my standards) at $249.95 MSRP. No reviews are out for it yet however. Some folks here would recommend the Herc GTXP, however speaking as former owner of this sound system, I'd say it's not for you if you are in fact someone who is really into music recording and creation. It's primary strengh is audio output for games and NOT audio input for the home recording artist.

I agree with that statement but I'd also like to add that its strength also lies in audio output for the home recording artist. If you have a huge amount of system RAM, you can allocate as much as 1GB of memory for SoundFonts (SF2 and DLS format) to the card, making it a great sampler.

BTW AFAIK there is absolutely no difference in functionality between the Platinum and Platinum eX, i.e. the difference is only physical - for the eX, the "Livedrive" unit is an external breakout box whereas the Platinum's unit fits in a 5.25" bay.

That looks very promising as I have loads of soundfonts that I've been working on since 1994...

Hopefully this card won't have the random click insertion syndrome that all the SB Live cards seem to have! That is very very annoying to say the least.

Cheers!

My 2 cents is that Creative has always pushed the envelope in audio cards so I am sure this card will be no exception. SoundBlaster is practically a house hold name like Scott.

Audigy also has what appear to be two Firewire (1394) ports. That could preclude having to buy an extra PCI card for 1394 . . . and that is worth something.

>>>Fully integrated SB1394? (IEEE® 1394 compliant) ensures optimum performance for qualified products like DV Camcorders, digital audio players, external hard drives/high-speed CD-RWs, and home entertainment equipment
Sound Blaster® Audigy? Platinum eX is a professional home <<<

Hello,

It also does onboard Dolby-Digital decoding acording to the specs, so you don't need an external decoder to watch movies.
