About 2 weeks ago, I noticed that I'm starting to get some excessive noise through my speakers. It appears this "interference" is being caused by my sound card. The interference or noise can be heard when my system is accessing the hard drive and it sounds like SB Live! card is picking up these sounds and amplifying them. For speakers, I'm running Altec Lansing ATP-3 speakers.

Has anyone else experienced this issue before?

I have checked my speaker connection from the sound card to my speakers and that appears O.K. I have considered moving my SB Live! to another PCI slot to see if the issue gets resolved, but thought I'd place a post out here instead.

Thanks for any and all replies! ;)

Have you tried muting all sources to check if the problem still persists?

Biggs,

Thanks for the response. Actually, I noticed that the volume output level going to my Altec Lansing speakers had been degrading over time. This pointed to a potential failing component on my SB Live! card. I went out this evening and picked up a new Hercules Muse 5.1 DVD card for $29.99 at Best Buy. I have installed the new card and my issues have been resolved - no more noise being produced through my speakers and the volume produced by my speakers has been successfully restored.

I'm not a big gamer and basically listen to MP3s and CDs, so this new sound card is more than adequate for my needs. I guess the 2 or 3 years that I've owned my SB Live! (I've swapped it in and out of about 3 different systems) was a sufficient life for this card. (S.B. Live! - RIP: 2000 - 2002). :( :(
