Sound and Video out of sync?????????

What is with avi's that lose the sound positioning once you skip around, rewind or fast-forward??

Can someone explain this to me?

I'm watching a full length movie, skip back a few seconds to hear something I didn't hear, and the next thing I know I've go to start the movie all over again
'cause heaven forbid I disturb precious sync'ing between audio and video.

It usually happens when a file is encoded improperly with an MP3 audio codec... not much you can do except for syncing the the video and audio together manually.. PowerDVD seems to help sometimes

Sometimes it happens when I encode VOB to DivX myself... only if I use something like FlaskMPEG or somethin though.. GordianKnot's a lot better
