Sound Absorbing Material for case

Tiamat

Lifer
I was wondering if using anechoic acoustic material in my computer case would be a good substitute against buying the expensive 80$ stuff. There is some extra stuff lying around the lab here, and it is a thickness which I could potentially use for my computer case.

Does anybody know how this stuff might compare to using the 80$ stuff meant for computers?

thx

Check out the article about acoustic treatment materials on http://www.dansdata.com .
. It's in the review section under Cases and Accessories - Spire Soundmate/Akasa Paxmate. He links to info on lots of materials.

Yea, whatever stuff you have laying around the lab might actually be better then some of the stuff meant for computers. I'd recommend getting some Dynamat (meant for car audio). Really heavy and thick pads. They even have a spray on version for those hard to get spots.

For one thing, frozencpu has a set for $19... http://www.frozencpu.com/cgi-bin/frozencpu/scan/se=Noise%20Dampening/se=Pax%2eMate/mp=menu_search.html I've seen either the same, or very similar stuff sold at compusa (of all places) for $20... I've used the stuff before (putting it on the top, bottom and both side panels inside) on a case and it works. I haven't done it to my current case yet, since I'm going to be installing a liquid cooling system (as soon as I get paid for work I did last week) and I'll need to cut the case some to get the proper fit. No point in installing the material if I'm going to have to cut through it in a couple of weeks.

parts express I bought some 48" by 54" sheets for $13 each a few months ago for my truck. I just bought the cheapest and heaviest set they had since you are really only adding weight to the panels. I had some leftover and stuck it in my computer case along with the silencing foam they had. Works well enough to cover the fans inside, but the biggest problem will probably be your power supply.

Im just looking for something to add a little weight to my case. It resonates as SPCR's review claimed. However I have a window, so Im gonna have to figure out a nice neat way of dealing with that. Im hoping that the foam will help to relieve the resonation. But I have no clue if it will even work. I dont care about the system noise, as it is already very low, but the resonation is annoying in the middle of the night.

SVC has Akasa and Spire for 13$ and 9$ respectively. Are these things that can "eliminate" the resonance of my SuperLanboy case?

thx

I went to WalMart, got one of their solid rubber mats from the Domestic section, went into the Hardware dept and picked up some Gorilla Glue. Got home cleaned the inside of my case and glued the rubber mats to the inside of my case. Worked great and did my whole case for less than $18
