I am playing the "Capture the World" campaign on Normal and I am getting it handed to me playing as the Necrons. Anyone else think Normal is too hard?

Yep same game. The second map against the weakling Eldar involved them dropping an Avatar of Khaine on my army. I don't mind difficulty to some extent but this map probably would have taken 5 or 6 hours and that's not guaranteeing me a win. I don't find 5 or 6 hours of angry, seat-of-the-pants gameplay enjoyable. I can't return it since I got it from steam.

do you have your equivalent to the avatar (harvester of souls i think). just throw all melee units at him (FO's and pariah's are amazingly durable) and have everyone else blast him from a distance

No, I don't have a relic. This isn't even that far into the mission which is why I was dumbstruck when I saw it.

Are you sure you're not playing on hard? The AI is pretty easy on medium. Maybe the battles aren't incredibly easy, but you should at least be able to hold your own if you at least have some troops hanging around.

Are you attacking a territory with a high defense value? Generally that may mean 2 bases and a large starting army that you're going against (although for the first few minutes you won't see any units, the AI always takes awhile just capturing strategic points before they come after you). Also, are you attacking the Eldar's home territory? That can also make a big difference in map difficulty. I don't think I've ever seen the Eldar summon the Avatar of Khaine on a normal map besides in the last base you destroy in the Eldar's home territory...

Maybe try setting the game to Easy mode? I played a round on Easy just so I could see the ending for the Dark Eldar (I don't like playing as them but do want to see all of the endings and whatnot)

Playing on easy as the sisters and kicking some butt. I wish I could play on Medium but I am happy for now.

The demo kicked my ass on skirmish mode. The tutorial was okay, but I already suck at RTS's and I need that gentle ramping up of difficulty to get familiar with the game. That was one of my complaints about Company Of Heroes. By the third mission you've got the enemy attacking you 3 places at once while you're trying to seize more territory and reinforce and upgrade and micromanage your troops into cover, etc, etc. All you have to do is leave some units unattended for a minute and you'll come back to find it's been run over by a Panzer.

Huh, I never get attacked by superunits unless I'm raiding a stronghold...

Why not take the easy areas first? I wouldn't attempt going anyone's home territory until you have a few honor guards.

I am ploughing through with the SoB on Easy. I get too bored playing as SM even though they are my favourite faction to play as.

As SoB, what do you guys use to punch a hole in Heavy Infantry? They also lack some decent melee units until tier 3 which is disappointing. My only real tangible experience with SoB was through the first book in the BL in the Grey Knights series where they encountered several Seraphim and as such, I thought the Seraphim were more the SoB equivilent to Assault Marines.

SoB's with heavy bolters while one group serves as a screen in melee mode to keep them busy.

If you want a Sister's of Battle novel then read the book "Fire and Faith". It's a pretty good book and the only book I've encountered that has the Sister's of Battle as the main characters in the story.
