Hey all, i'm considering picking this game up. I'd like to hear what you guys think of the game. I didnt play SC3, but I loved 1 and owned and beat 2.

Thanks!

I think everyone has been using this.

i didnt want to have to sift through the yoda/vader talk just to get to the overall reviews

The simplest answer then: Its plays exactly like soul calibur 1-3, looks, sounds and plays great, and the online sucks.

It is easily the best since the first. Online is sometimes suck and sometimes ok but what did you really expect when you have like .0002 seconds to GI the net code can't get to you that fast.

It is not as good as the one I have for the gamecube. That said it is a great game, the gameplay is great, the graphics are great, the online play works well. My only complaint is story mode. It seems the went for more characters and even less story this time around. There are tons and tons of characters, but there really is very little in terms of story. I liked the way they did it on the gamecube better.

I do not regret the purchase however and I have not customized any characters or built my own character yet.

1>4>2

I've never played 3, so I can't coment. My only real complaint as that in create a character you can either make a character that looks good...or one that has good stats and skills. I always felt that SC1 was just really crisp and responded to your inputs very well (hard to describe), and while this newest one isn't exactly the same, it's pretty close.

I tried network play this weekend, well tried is the main word there. It took me 15 minutes to find a match, then the guy dropped before I could fight him. Then 10 minutes later I finally got a match and it lagged. Not impressed. As a party game at my house though, it is fun.

the SC formula is boring me. SC 1 was a masterpiece for the greatest system of all time.

SC2 was a fine upgrade, fixing mostly the graphical elements.

Lost interest in SC3 and SC4 is just more of the same with prettier HD.

For fighting games, I was always a DOA guy.

Interesting that so many say SC1 is better. It was a great release on a great system, but I don't think it really compares to #2. Each character has about 25% of the moves of characters in #2, which just kills it for me. SC2 also just looked so good that gen, the controls were tight, the modes were tight. This is just my opinion of course though.

/slight off topic bs

Haven't tried SC4, I would buy it if I had the cash. Best fighting series, great for having friends over, drinking games, etc.

SC2 on the Gamecube is the best version. SC4 on 360 is good, but nat as good as 2. But still very good. Yoda isn't too bad so I have no comment on the Vader/Yoda crap. Just an all around decent fighting game which, I hope, gets better when they fix the online stuff.

SC2 added the 8-way run and guard impacts. The core game mechanics have not changed since then in SC3 and SC4, so I cant imagine why anyone could say SC2 was better than SC3 or SC4 other than out of nostalgia. Theyre all practically the exact same game.

No they aren't. 3 was very unbalanced. So much in fact that the SC tournament scene basically died.

4 seems to have fixed that.

Imo SC1>SC4>SC2>SC3

Because Link kicked ass! 🙂

It looks ok, but I'm not a big fan of fighting games. However, I will probably pick up Street Fighter for the nostalgia factor.

I rented it for the PS3 this weekend. And I think the game is awesome. For me so far, it has been mostly lag free online. Online play makes the game worth it to me.

I didnt even realize there was a SC tournament scene, although allow me to then amend my statement to say that to the vast, vast, vast majority of people looking to buy SC4 that arent interested in tournament play, its the exact same game.

And thats great, because it doesnt need changing. I really dig SC4, I only hope they really follow through with the DLC. It seems like they actually dumped a lot of movesets from SC3 custom characters (tambourines!), which I hope make a reappearance.

I do like the customizable character creation. I take off the clothes of the female players and fight them in their undies. 🙂

I was watching a GameTrailers video of this game and I really like the way the announcer says, "Soul Calibur 4!" at the end. Infact the announcer is the main reason I bought the game. It has this cheesy B grade movie esque quality too it.
