the situation ---> i was using msn messenger last night talkin to my girlfriend, i had web cam on and was listening to BBC radio one online. all of a sudden connection is lost.
i am at Loughborough Uni in england, and when u lose connection like this it is generally because computng services have detected i might be infected with a virus. so i lose connection i know i cant reconnect now becuase im only allowed to reconnect 3 times in 30 days and this will be my 4th time the times before were false alarms too
so i do a thorough scan using mcafee enterprise leave it over night, wake up its found 4 things, and saus virus has been found but the things it listed were add ware and some system volume thing that looks suspicious...i deleted them all, restarted my computer
now i have an ASUS K8N-E Deluxe, im using the onboard ethernet and NForce 3 250gb firewall, the light on the port simply flashes on an off slowly (orange light) and in windows the internet connection icons say im connected then network cable unplugged every 2 seconds (alternating) i can still access the nvidia web based network manager so the ethernet seems to be working.
but now...ccant get on net which i need, i have annoying bubble sayin connected disconnected alternatly and i cant shut down at all, pressing turn off or standby or reset does nothing, only way to turn off is press and hold power button
have i deleted something i shouldnt?
do you think the network prob is coz im not allowed back on the "hallnet" which is why im having a dodgy connection ?
and why cant i turn my rig off after deleting adware/virus?
edit...seems sorted now everything in perfect working order...dunno what happend earlier but its fine now...crappy uni network!
