Sorta newbie question

I was wondering, how exactly does overclocking effect the memory? Does the FSB speed equal the memory speed i.e. a processor @ 140mhz fsb is forcing the memory to run this fast also? Or is the multipler something other then 1:1? I was 100% sure it was a 1:1 ratio but now I am not so sure after reading a couple posts . . .

forgot one other question I had, how can you tell if the memory isn't able to proform at the current clock speed? I have some high quality CAS3 PC133 RAM, but want to figure out if it can run CAS2 without errors.

The FSB causes the ram to run at that speed. You cannot set the memory speed any lower. If you try cas2 on cas3 ram then it might crash and you can set it back. It won't cause any serious problems. Give it a try
