I am planning on building a new machine for next year and part of this plan calls for 3 monitors, 1 20" widescreen flanked on either side by 17" 4:3 monitors.

So here is the weird question... in order to do this right I am going to need two video cards am i not? And assuming that I do need two video cards, does anyone know if I can run SLI only when gaming, so basically, when gaming (and maybe even only specific games) i disable one of the monitors and run the cards in SLI, and then when in windows the SLI bridge shuts off and I get the two independent cards... i may not have specified it very well, but its the best ive got.

Yes, you can run three monitors if your graphics cards have the appropriate video outs.

No, you cannot run three monitors in SLI mode.

you can configure the setup in nvidia driver control panel :! you can disable sli or enable when ever you want and same goes for monitor . ect

so my situation albeit strange is feasible then yes? I can setup the nvidia control panel to enable SLI when certain apps are run, and when SLI is enabled it disables monitor 3... so it would be weird but feasible... sweet
