Pretty much the situation my family is in, but my brother and I are 20 and 21 so it's not a huge issue.

It was when we were little though. Someone ended up dropping off a giant box of toys.

There's wayyy too many people in this situation in the US.. and there's hardly any talk about it with the MSM.

MSM?

Pretty sure that stands for Main Stream Media.

A few years ago, we were like that. In 2001, I was laid off a week after 9/11 and was out of work for several months. My wife and I had 3 kids, so we ended up buying things at Goodwill, Salvation Army and wrapped it. We also bought things from dollar stores, and family members also chipped in to help us.

In 2002, I was working, but only part time so we were still struggling and repeated the scenario.

Now we have 5 kids, money is still tight, but that's because we spend too much and have a trip to DisneyWorld coming up.

It is very possible that this ad is real.

People make up strange things...but there's really nothing in the story itself that screams bullshit. That could happen to anyone.

This may be extremely none of my business to ask, and if so I completely accept no answer - and I want it very clear that I ask this with genuine neutral curiosity, but only because I really need to understand your opinion on this issue because my brother is in the exact same situation and I don't really know how to approach it with him as I consider it to be a problem that needs to be resolved if he is going to take care of his children.

On that note, here goes. With 3 children and an obvious struggle to care for them, why exactly did you allow yourself to have more under the same situation? I have told myself time and time again that the misses and I would never have children unless we were extremely financially stable - and I'm not talking the whole six months of rent put away financially stable, I'm talking a house, good jobs, and enough to keep us running for at least two years if we hit a rough spot.

My brother has three children and is barely working a part time job at grocery stores. They can hardly afford car insurance and had to move on with his wife's parents, and then he proceeded to get his wife pregnant again and she had twins - so now he's raising 5 children on a single adult barely over minimum wage part time job. To me it's completely astounding and I don't really know what to do to help him because I don't understand why he'd take such a gamble with not only his own care but those of 5 infants.

I have a problem with anyone asking for cash but I would consider purchasing a reasonably priced gift and sending it to them to give to their kids.

Fortunately there are charities that help people just like this guy. If you give your money to a charity, you can feel more confident that you are helping someone who is legitimately poor. Of course you still can't differentiate between people who are poor because of their own doing or because they have fallen on hard times.

This guy should contact such a charity.

See my post above yours. I don't think it's being insulting at all, I think it's some goddamn common sense.

I would like to give this guy something for his kids, like if they have a Playstation or something I will give some old games I don't play anymore but it'll be awkward face to face, I'd rather ship them to him or something, but then I don't know if he is legit.

As much as I hate to say it, I don't think kids should have to learn that lesson in that manner at an early age. It's just not how it should be.

Some of those chicks are hot, I wouldn't mind one wrapped on christmas day...my wife may disagree.

:)

I think the ad is real. Anyone notice how panhandling has majorly increased the last few years? Many people either got themselves into a world of hurt trying to be the next Donald Trump or took advantage of bad mortgages to buy a house that only someone that made 3x+ their salaries could stretch or took out 10x% equity lines at an insane rate.

QFT...I see this a lot, people are struggling and then still manage to have more kids.

I am pretty ok, but I am not looking for kids. Most of my adult life has been spent having sex at least weekly and no kids to be found. Although on the times I didn't use protection regularly I had a couple miscarriages along the way and one chick that claimed she had to have an abortion, but I think she was just looking for cash.
