Sort MSFlexgrid data on a column which has Date values

hi,
Can somebody tell me how to use the sort functionality of the MXFlexgrid to sort on a column which has Date values. I tried using FlexsortGenericAscending, FlexsortNumbericAscending etc...but nothing works out as the data is not exactly string or numeric.
