http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...ne-will-not-receive-android-2-2-froyo-update/

Sony Ericsson has confirmed that it will not be updating its Xperia X10 line of smartphones to Android 2.2 Froyo. So, owners of the Xperia X10, X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro will be stuck on Android 2.1 Éclair for the foreseeable future

Unless you're rooted of course. Still demonstrates again why open phones are critical when a manufacturer/carrier drops the ball like this. Can probably scratch Sony Ericsson off my list of potential phones too.

Translation: Sony Ericsson is too cheap or greedy to commit the resources needed to get 2.2 tested and working on their phones.

It could also be a ploy to get people to buy the PSP phone which will have 2.3 on it. Of course, I don't know what educated buyer would do so if it never gets updated to newer versions of Android but there are tons of uneducated buyers out there.

Wow that sucks big time. I think these manufacturers just don't get how important updating Android is. If they don't have the money to update their shitty ui then just use vanilla android.

A lot of manufacturers are stuck in the stone ages following the dumbphone model in which phone firmware never or very rarely ever got updated as opposed to the PC OS/software model where updates are pushed frequently. This phone situation is especially stupid considering Sony pushes dozens of big and small updates for the PS3.

Unfortunately most people don't care about Froyo vs. Gingerbread or iOS 4 vs. 4.2 because they just want something that works. We tech geeks are left with fewer choices--I can tell a lot will need to change before I'll ever buy a SE or Samsung phone based on their past histories.

Yeah I think HTC and Motorola is where its at. Or you can get the Nexus phones which would get the updates before everyone else.

Its really too bad their phones suck from a software standpoint. I really like the hardware in the Sony phones.

Sony/Ericsson did well in the dumbphone era, but they've gotten slaughtered in the mobile space since then. Fellow CE giant Samsung has absolutely eaten their lunch.

Maybe the PSPhone gets them somewhere, but just saying stuff like they're planning to be the #2 tablet maker doesn't make anything happen.

Yeah I think HTC and Motorola is where its at.
Well, HTC botched Eclair for Eris big-time, and Motorola shows no interest in Froyo for the Milestone (or any other non-"Droid" phone).

The X10 was a cool phone when it first came out... in Europe. Nearly a year later, when it hit the US with hugely outdated software, it was certainly lackluster. I still have 2 friends that have them and love them, using whatever version AT&T gives them. They're not terrible phones, just not the best. The camera is awesome too.
