Anyways, my type of format involves using good ol' floppy boot disks and if your system is newer, you should be able to boot by changing your boot startup in your BIOS.

i tried changing the booting HD, but i think i set it up wrong.

i wanted to replace my old HD, but wound up making the new HD a slave.

It doesn't matter if its master or slave, as long as its the only drive and the bios recognizes it you can install windows.

i dont know. b/c i was able to access the HD when XP was working.

You could have bad memory...

I had the same problem with a Win2k install once, gave me the same ACPI errors and everything. Tore my hair out for 2 days before I realized my memory was blown...

Try downloading memtest 86 to check your ram

Ok, I didn't read the entire thread. So I may be off here. But the first place I look when I get blue screens during bootup or install is RAM. If you are using two sticks, try using one at a time and see if the problem follows one stick.

ran that software on startup, and the error column went crazy.

i still dont know if its one stick or both.

Again, you have to remove one stick and run the test. Then remove that stick, install the other stick, and run the test again.
