Chippers suck.
They are loud and they can beat you up if you are feeding dead product through them.

That's one product that I'd be nervous to operate. At least he died very quickly. Even feet first, I'd imagine that with those big tow behind chippers that it wouldn't be more than 5 or 6 seconds. Head first? Near instantly. Very terrifying, I'm sure, but over very fast too.

You're sure this didn't happen in Fargo, North Dakota?

Thought this was a script or something you embedded into your post that shows where you're connected from until I read that it happened in the Fargo movie. :)

(which I have yet to see)

You'd think they would have a second person at the switch for safety.

The red bar you see is a spring-loaded feed control bar, for emergency stop.

isn't this one of those things you'd do VERY carefully making sure you're not entangled/trapped somehow before putting it through? A bit puzzling as the cops try and piece it all together.

I see what you did there.

I don't get how these accidents happen so often though. You'd think even without any safety training people would have enough common sense to respect these machines, knowing what they are capable of. Don't create a situation where you can get pulled in.

The mangler was one of the worst movies I've ever seen, but I was also reminded of it by this. You may have common sense and it may make you think others also have it, but it's probably less common than you think.
