Nothing particularly new -- a friend of mine is a speech therapist and sells devices like this to people who cannot speak. They've come along way from the synthesized robot-ish voices. Still cool though
The main difference between this and the stuff available 10 years ago is quality. I use the built-in Office XP speech recognition (which sucks, since I haven't taken the time to properly train it yet), and the text-to-speech. The text-to-speech of MS's stuff is pretty amazing (surprising, considering it's a MS product ).
