I ranted about the stock Google Calendar here:

http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2263429&highlight=calendar

It doesn't have any kind of functionality when it comes to dragging entries around. When you have a busy schedule and are managing the schedules of multiple people and clients, you can't be drilling down into each entry and tapping +/- keys every time you need to schedule or reschedule something. You need to see where you have time and either directly insert or drag entries to those openings.

Google Calendar has no support whatsoever.

The TouchWiz calendar is awesome at this, but it's only available on Samsung phones, not HTC or Nexus phones.

Business Calendar Pro has drag and drop support but it sucks: https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/8hfObdeEkVj9SV2NQMYs4tD9pFGyYEySeJ2XOt5Mynk?feat=directlink

CalenGoo supports this plus you can customize almost EVERYTHING about the software. Colors, font sizes, font types, tap behaviors, zoom, etc. The following is simply *my* color scheme. You can change it to black background, any color for entries, colors for fonts, etc. It's beautiful: https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/ZQqaMeM42LURk36UoehHv9D9pFGyYEySeJ2XOt5Mynk?feat=directlink

Just FYI. It has breathed new life into my Galaxy Nexus. Before I was so distraught that I was going to sell my brand new penta-band Nexus (rather than losing 15% on a restocking fee and return shipping) and buy the quad-band Galaxy S3 just to get the TouchWiz calendar. Now I don't have to.

Thanks for posting this, I'll be giving it a try. I used to use Jorte but this looks worth trying out.

I'll have to give it a try as well. I've never been a fan of the stock Android calendar on my tablet compared to the Touchwiz 5 calendar I am running on my SGS2 so this will be really useful.

Nice to see you found the solution to your calender app problem. :) That app saved you $300.

There are couple of things on Touchwiz I really liked over stock Android. Dialer/Contact, calendar, clock/alarmclock, swipe left or right for phone call or messaging, and pull down toggles.

Yeah, it's nice that Samsung actually added some useful features to Android instead of just piling on bloat (aka blur)

I even like the Touchwiz 5.0 launcher from the SGS3 better than stock/ trebuchet/etc which really surprised me.

Yeah. You know, I love Google and all, but sometimes they produce some awful user experiences. There are times when I have to drill down 3 levels just to be able to copy a person's phone number. Absolutely ridiculous. On TouchWiz you can just press a person's phone number and up pops an option to Copy or Share it Via Text.

The sad part is no one seems to mind or even know what they're missing, at least on the XDA forums.

Yep, they're all just "HURR DURR AOSP FTW! DETH 2 CARRIER SKINZ!"

Edit: BTW, I use PureGrid. I don't actually USE a calendar app, I just have a widget on a home screen. I manage my calendar online.

XDA forum is full of trolls lately :). I've been using CalenGoo for a while, never used drag & drop to reschedule events though. News to me.

What's the appeal everyone sees in the TouchWiz calendar? I don't get it...
I used it for a while last fall/winter with Gingerbread on my SGS II and the moment that I noticed it doesn't sync with Google Calendar, I stopped using it. When you click on a random date to schedule an event, you will get some kind of stupid warning that says it doesn't sync with Google Calendar.
Has it changed that much from when I used it?

I use Business Calendar Pro since I got it during a Google sale in December due to TouchWiz calendar syncing disappointment. Generally, I schedule my events on a desktop using Google Calendar browser and then sync my phone to it.
It's very rare for me to create events on my phone. If I do, it's more of a "rough draft" or "scratch paper" type of thing in which I later properly update it with more detailed information the moment I get to a desktop to open the calendar in an internet browser.

AFAIK TouchWiz has always synced with Google Calendar. I had the Epic 4G and it was syncing...

I have to say, I really hated calengoo, I much prefer business calendar pro. But it has been awhile since I used calengoo, maybe it's improved.

At least that's my opinion

Edit: I also have never tried dragging and dropping events so I cannot comment on that feature.

To be fair, it starts off looking like shit, especially on a Galaxy and their AMOLED screen. Colors are way too saturated and text is big and hard to read and hard on the eyes. You gotta change the font size and colors at the very lease. And the zoom.

yeah, that was my main problem, and to be fair, i couldn't be arsed to to change all those things. Business cal looks nicer straight out of the box, and i really don't need to drag and drop at all, i just had to be able to sync multiple calendars.

Yup, I kept hearing how great AOSP is but when I finally tried CM7 I was shocked how awful the UI was compared to Touchwiz 4. ICS really closed the gap imo and actually has an excellent stock UI but I still think the latest version of Touxhwiz has some nice tweaks and a slightly slicker launcher.

Heh heh, no it didn't. There was a bug in original Eclair Touchwiz that prevented you from syncing local entries to Google, and (IIRC) it wouldn't let you set your default add to Google (instead of local) either.

This got straightened out by Froyo, but a lot of people had jumped ship on the native TW app by then.

AOSP Calendar has always stunk (it's passable on a tablet but the inability to do proper week/month views just kills it on a phone). TW definitely has a better dialer and contacts app too. But I've never really liked the aesthetics of the TW launchers.

Anything I updated on my phone didn't sync with Google Calendar.
Anything I updated on Google Calendar synced to my phone.
In other words, it was a one way street.

That warning is still there I see...

If it works as you claim, then that means this warning is useless. So what is the point of it?

That warning is about syncing with the Samsung kies pc software. if you want to sync with kies you need to use the phones local calendar, otherwise use Google Calendar.

Let's see...

1. I can't press and hold on a person's contact while in SMS and share his contact.

2. I can't do this from the call log.

3. I can't do this from the contacts list in the dialer.

4. I can't do this from the pop-up window after I click on the contact in the dialer:
https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/LYQhQsxp0PMlsK9BxLBmPdD9pFGyYEySeJ2XOt5Mynk?feat=directlink

5. This is the only place where I can copy the contact's number:
https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/Tl7ZQfLrvS6hyknyaauyOND9pFGyYEySeJ2XOt5Mynk?feat=directlink

TouchWiz is able to do this in all instances above. In fact, it will auto fill the message text with the person's name and phone.

I have no idea what Samsung Kies is. I just click on the calendar app.

I see. I've always run custom roms on it anyway and I guess I was a late adopter.

TW from a usability standpoint is awesome. But yeah, aesthetics sucks. But I have to take usability at the end of the day over how pretty and useless something is.

CalenGoo looks nice... but not $6 better than my current setup.

I guess if the widget lets you forego having to buy Pure Calendar Agenda that might be worth it for someone new to Android.
