i read through that other guys nightmare and noticed it was locked. i basically went through the same thing except i had a nightly backup that stored my entire profile on another machine. so i restored from the backup and have a file with no extension in \Crypto\RAS\some mega filename folder\some mega filename file
now i noticed there was a link in that other thread that im assuming had directions on how to add this certificate and be able to decrypt the files, but that link was dead
i googled and keep coming up with people saying "just use recovery agent" and "if you can restore your certificate you can restore the files" but no details on exactly how to do it. any help would be greatly appreciated!
