so we were driving home from work last night and we were trying to beat a friend home, at the stop light he peels out and tops out at about 50mph (30mph zone). we were in the left lane and a red light was ahead so quickly changes lanes (no signal), and turns into the street before the light, there's a round-about thingie and he cuts through it (ie, goes left instead of around), right after he does an unmarked cop flicks on his lights and pulls him over.
He comes up to the window and says "license and registration 'Hotrod'". the cop proceeds to explain how he was following him from the previous light, and has him for excess acceleration (burning rubber), illegal lane change, no signal while turning, disobeying traffic signs, and something about the round-about. so he pulls him out of the car and asks him if he has been drinking/smoking. then he has him open a tin of cookies he had in the back seat. after a couple minutes he comes back and asks if he has any reason why his license would be suspended, after saying no, he says 'well i cant run your license because they are backed up at the station, so im going to let you off with a verbal warning.'
apparantly the cop explained to him that he was looking at a $450 ticket when he had him outside of the car...and he gets off with a damn verbal warning...WTF!

The $450 ticket would have been nothing compared to the thousands of dollars in increased insurance premiums he would have paid over the next 4 years... all those tickets in one whack might even have been enough points to lose his license.

Edit: Of course the obligatory "your friend is a moron."

I've gotten out of as many tickets as I've received, and I deserved everyone I got. Sometimes you get lucky, that's all.

Your friend is an idiot who deserved the ticket. That cop was too nice.

450$ for all that?

Christ, I got 80 in a 55(amongst other things), and that ticket alone is 427$.

No doubt. If it were me I would've yanked your friend's license, nailed him with every fine I could, and made sure he was off the streets. People that stupid shouldn't be allowed to drive, ever.

He must have been in a very good mood unless the fact that he could not check your friends licence helped any.

no...the cop was not in a good mood. but he introduced himself as detective such and such, dont know if detectives can give tickets?? i assume they would just keep him there till a street cop arrives.
