I'm building acomputer for my roommate's parents and they want a black LCD that's 17 inches. However, 19 inches would be good too if I found one that's reasonibly priced.

I haven't had much luck finding a good guide for them (none on Anandtech really) so I was hoping to find some good ones from you guys.

What aspects should I look for? I heard responce times don't matter below .25ms really but I found a viewsonic for $418 on newegg that was .16ms and seemed to be fine.

Please give me some suggestions, I only have 2 days to accomplish this!

i just bought a samsung syncmaster 170n, this thing is AWESOME!!!! i love it. doesnt have any ghosting problems when playing gmaes either even though it has a 25ms refresh rate. not to mention really thin bezels. we have 2 hitachi's 16ms LCD's at work at they look good too. but personally i don't like my monitor lookling squarish. the wider the better. even though the 170n and the hitachi have same resoltuions, those unnecesaary built-in speakers make it look funny imo.

it's almost $100 more than the viewsonic I linked to. Is there any reason for this?

i dont think the one you linked has a DVI input. the vp171b has 1 DVI input and 2 analog inputs

why would you need 2 analog inputs?

I have the Sharp 19" LL19A1-W (white) and like it.
Goes for $700 from the Sharp store here

Anand reviewed the monitor a month ago. In it, they knock off a few points for not having DVI connectors, but that doesn't matter to me. And they said it wasn't bright enough. Huh? I have the brightness on mine turned all the way down. Sound from the speakers is crappy, but I use headphones from my sound card. The only complaint I have is that LCD monitors eventually wear out and there is no way to fix them.

Pros are 16ms, no ghosting, and plays UT2K4 great.
