LOL....he used the "N" word to praise the kid in the same way the kid's friends probably do. He should have known better but the logic twists can be confounding.

That is what he said??? He is getting flak for that?? Give me a freaking break. A highly respected, national championship winning, coach is being forced out because he called a black person black??? Is there more to this story? Did he use the "N" word and they are not saying it? I have a hard time believing that he is getting national attention because he used the word black.

He actually did use the 'n-word'. he didn't get fired for saying 'black kid':

What I think is interesting is that he apparently used the word in the context of praising the player.

I DON'T think, considering his age, that he was trying to use the word the way young black people do - IMO it was used, well, more in the way older white people use it - but it doesn't really sound malicious. It sounds as though he's being put out to pasture as a creature of another era, which doesn't really trouble me, but he may be a decent guy in spite of his language.
