Starting in 2016 you’ll Need a passport for domestic flights.

If you live in New York, Louisiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota, New Hampshire and American Samoa will soon require people traveling domestically to show passports in order to be granted entry on to a plane. The problem remains that 62% of Americans don’t hold a passport.

I have a passport for domestic travel. It's called my driver's license. Though with that said I'm sure the (fed or state) government would gladly add yet another tax for us to enjoy.

You would only need a passport if your state license does not comply with the new federal guidelines. I find it extremely unlikely that people will suddenly need passports in 2016 given that only 23 states\territories\etc are currently in compliance with the new regulations. New York, Louisiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota, New Hampshire and American Samoa just haven't filed extensions yet like the other states\territories\etc who likewise aren't in compliance yet

It's not so much as a passport will be required but a new id in the form of a real id license.

I got my renewal papers recently, in WI here, and you can get this or your drivers license as it's still a few years off when you will need this form but either way it costs the same, $34 here, so it's no biggy.

Thanks for clearing that up. Those right wing websites will rot your brain as evidenced by the OP.

First thing I did thanks to my parents.. was get a US Passport. They always said it was more important than my Drivers License. Now I believe it.

I use it quite a lot anyways for overseas travel but you'd have to pay me to fly domestically.

It's everything, obviously, Sinsear.

People have fought and died to declare that Government cannot ask them for their papers, unprovoked.

Communism, Socialism, Fascism, etc., are all Governments that can't wait to fuck you up. Demand your papers, etc.

Capitalism, is a new form of Government, that respects the individual and individual rights.

I wasn't aware that the government runs our airlines. You know the difference between the government and the private sector right?

Lol!

You are the only person I know who, when drunk, starts forum posting like crazy. Is your computer your only friend?

Yeah but that's because you aren't the target audience, you have a brain.

The problem is these real id's will replace drivers licenses it looks like and they cost the same as it when you go to renew so unless you don't have one it's not a issue there.

Otherwise I suppose it could be a issue but then again how were people flying before without some form of ID like this?

The target audience has brains- they've just been conditioned into not using them very well. The cumulative effect of right wing propaganda does that to people.

Hi, Zork. Haven't seen you posting recently.

No internet at the Rehab clinic I take it. Obviously didn't work, either.

if i'm reading the act correctly, you only need a passport if your state does not issue a driver's license or identification card that is compliant with the standards in the Real ID Act.

am i missing something?
