I've been planning to get an i7 for a year. But I'm waiting to get some of my tax return on an Amazon gift card.

Yeah, just checking Newegg, it's 7PM EST, no KBL CPUs found yet. Strange.

It isn't strange. NDA review embargo has lifted which is always some days earlier, official sales start is on Friday I've read somewhere. Intels usual sales start is on a Sunday, so I'm unsure if Friday is correct.

Does this apply to Z270 boards too?

:(

(And I was about to accuse Intel of a "paper launch".)

Reviews also seemed devoid of availability dates. Guess we assumed yesterday. So we should expect to see them next week?

I dont care what brand or name it is.
I recommend what i think is best regardless of name and regardles of the name in top of the thread.
I dont care for your feelings.
Btw havnt had an amd desktop cpu since barton xp - its like 13 years.
But you only think it's best because of hearsay (from the company that makes them)

I find the 7350K the most interesting of the new offerings because it's different and promises to be fun to play with, but I also have the feeling that it will ultimately prove disappointing. I might get one anyway, just to add something to my languishing Cinebench 11.5 thread.

I wrote it was better to wait 3 months and see what zen brings.
Hearsay? We have one of the most trusted magazines giving us solid bm. Bm that correspond to amds blender and handbrake numbers. We know its named sr3 sr5 sr7 and therefore targeting i3 i5 i7 price segments yet the 8c 16t zen performs more or less like a bwe 8c hedt cpu. Thats enough to wait and see if shelling out eg 350 usd for a i7 is perhaps not the best time in history. Actually it could turn out to be the most stupid thing to do.

Go and look at the Canard frontpage and the bm and their comments. They predict a huge change. And they are not amd.

The unlocked I3 could have been a good product, 4 years ago, not now.

Yes look at their MT benchmarks of the 8/16 chip divide by two for the 4/8 chip and compare to i5-6400 running at 3.1Ghz all core turbo.
8 zen threads are slower then 4 skylake threads clock to clock.
And if you subtract whatever SMT gains zen gets, around 25-30% for intel, you will see that zen doesn't look very good for the mainstream because it will have 25-30% lower IPC then sky/kaby.
If it's priced the same as the i5-6400 it will basically just be another choice being not much worse overall but offering more threads, hardly anything to loose your mind over.

Only if you blindly believe AMDs PR talk does the ZEN look very good and worth waiting for.

Let's see what it overclocks to, first. That might be where it becomes interesting.

It could still be a good product.

it's not a mystery, some leaked review showed 4.8ghz I think, and KL at best is around 5GHz

it will be fast, but, the i5 at $170 is much nicer overall
unlocked i3 would be fun if it was the 7100 (price closer to $100), and if it was years ago when the stock clock was low, like sandy/ivy bridge era they were mostly under 3.5GHz while the cores were capable of a lot more.

also the whole i3 line looks overpriced because of the Pentiums.

If the 4C chips can crack 5ghz, then it seems possible that the 2C chips can do a little better.
I'll wait and see what the release reviews have to say.

i7-7700K has 2mb cache per core
i5-7600K has 1.5mb cache per core
i3-7350K has 2mb cache per core
i3-7100 has 1.5mb cache per core
KL Pentiums have 1.5mb cache per core
KL Celerons have 1mb cache per core

Just an observation.

You can get an i5-7400 and H170 motherboard for $50 cheaper than the 7350K, Z170, and Cooler Master 212. This was spec'd out on Reddit and isn't recommended for new PC builders.

Which is fine for a beginner building a midrange gaming PC, but totally boring for a jaded enthusiast like me. I think the point of my post is that I may buy one even though it's not a practical and cost effective solution.
