I'll soon be installing an ATi Radeon 9700 Pro. I've read a lot of threads of people having difficulties and performance issues. I'm almost certain most of these issues are a result of driver conflicts, and so I've decided to reformat. With that said, I want this to go as smoothly as possible, so if there are any steps I can take to insure this process is a complete success, please feel free to offer any advice.

My system's specs:

Athlon XP 1800+
EPOX EP-8RDA+
512MB Generic PC2100
Windows XP Pro (SP1a)
Enermax EG365P-VE FM 350 Watt PSU

Basically, I'd like to know the order in which I should install the software/drivers/etc., and which OS/BIOS settings I should pay close attention to.

Cheers.

I have the exact stuff you have there except for the RAM.

Just pop in the card, install SP1a, install DirectX9.0 (If you wanna see the flashy tech demos), download and install the nForce2 2.03 drivers, then download the ATI drivers and control panel. Just a matter of following instructions. Then.. show off (and maybe do some o/cing) !

Since you are reinstallling..there shouldn't be any problems at all.

Good luck..

Welcome to the "Title Club" ROFL... Seriously, it should go very smooth for you as long as you follow the steps one by one.

Here is a very good install guide written by one of the top guru's over at AsusBoards.com. It has been really helpful to alot of peeps including myself...

Bah. Uninstall your old drivers completely and then pop in the new card.

No problems here.
