Ok, I'm in desperate need of a new comp, theres like one comp in the house and its shared between 2 people. In the summer i plan to build a new comp if i save up enough money. I'll be using it for gaming, everyday use, and school work. Ialready know what i want to use for my next comp for the most part, and i need your suggestions. now im in canada, and my budget is between $2000-2500,

Basically, if i get either of the parts im not sure about, it will land in my budget. Now the parts i need help with. I read how all the dual core cpus over the X2 3800 gets a wayyyy better heatsink and fan, so im jus wondering if i should just buy the X2 4200. I'm not sure why i want the asus premium, but i guess i could go sli in the future just to be safe and keep up with the gaming industry, although im leaning toward the dfi because i heard a lot of ppl are having problems with thier premium. I also want to oc the 3800 or 4200 to around 2.6ghz which im sure both mbs will be sufficent. Would the memory work with either boards? Apparently both boards are picky with ram. help....

o yea, you guys can add to anything i forgot about

EDIT: i forgot the hdd lol http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/...etails.asp?EdpNo=1271628&sku=S130-1220

definately go with the 3800 and overclock, you can save 500 and run at 2.4 - 2.6 easy. of course an opteron will be more reliable in that case anyway. the memory is great, but you'll need 2GB. The only reason to go with 1GB is for insane overclocks, but you need 2 for gaming and photoshop, etc. You can get 2GB OCZ Platinum, I think its 2-3-2-5 and if you want, just use a divider and crank up your processor to 4200+ speeds, or go all out and overclock all three (cpu, htt, ram).

I would rather to go with X2 3800+ because its cheap and you can overclock.. Ive seen someone overclock this baby to 2.2-3.0 GHz. I would recommend to get good heatsink for this processor such as XP-120. ;-]

Wait until the summer hits, and you're ready to buy. In 3 or 4 months, all kinds of things could change.

The heatsink you linked is for Intel platform, won't work with s939, and $80 damn!!! Get an XP90 for around $30, it will be more than enough.
And for the OCZ platinum rev2, its great memory (I have two sets) but its overkill and provides almost zero performance over value ram. If I had it to do over, I would save the money and get value ram.

BTW, should i just go with the eVGA 7800 gtx or the gt? is the difference of $200(canadian) worth it? what about in terms of future proofing

Not really worth it imo, but it does depend on the monitor to some extent. If you're using a 19" LCD then the 7800GT, something like a 23" LCD or a good CRT and i'd edge towards a GTX or better yet a 1900XT

yea ive decided im getting the zalman or the xp-90. well i have a 17" lcd (hp f70) at home and a 5 year old crt that supports 1600x1200. most likely my sister wont let me use the lcd so im probably stuck with the crt. then later on ill probably by a cheap crt that supports 1600x1200....so what do u guys think?

yea i most likely will because i have a lcd that only supports up to 1280x1024 resolution and a crt 17" that supports 1600x1200. the 7800gt is pretty much futureproof for resolutions of 1280x1024 and 1600x1200 right? well maybe not 1600x1200...
