this has been the first year since moving in that my Pecan tree has given any nuts, and my MIL and AIL have been coming over picking them out of my yard every weekend for the last month, so today I decided to pick one up and give it a try raw. I cant stand them cooked into anything, and I just had a mouth orgasm, these things are great raw!!! I thought nothing could top my Chestnuts raw, till I just ate one of these. I just got back in from going out side with my mr grabit and filled a 50ct dvd spindal top full of these and they are half gone.

Yummy! Why has it taken 37 years for me to see how good these are, they come close to tasting like a walnut. Cooked they make me feel like I want to puke, but man, Im going to be fighting the in laws for whats left, and what drops next year

Since Chesnut trees are more or less extinct in North America, I'm going to assume you ate a buckeye, which I'm pretty sure is poisonous.

Nice knowing you.

It doesn't matter, buckeyes (in any form) are weak.

Nah.... while the American Chestnut tree is basically gone from the continent, there are still foreign species planted in place of them. Not that hard to imagine it's some other species of Chestnut tree.

they brought these into the country waaaaaaaaay back when the American chestnuts were going bad. Its a Chestnut tree, 100%, because not only would I have died, but so would the people I been selling them too ;)
I know what Im eating, thank you very much, for I know I was born at night, just not last night

1. Cooken? New word spawned by ATOT :)
2. Pecans taste very similar to walnuts... they are #s 1 and 2 in my favourite nuts list.
3. Lucky duck.

Im using these to bust a nut and not having a single problem.

Being a ex-mechanic I have all kinds of tools that will allow me to bust open any nut(s) I want :)
But found this set to work best having the grove in the middle taken out so I can just crack the shell and can remove the meat in one piece.

But anyway, I had more then my share of nuts and am full. I guess though Im the opposite of most people, I find anything sweet, even most candy to really turn my stomach and have never really been a huge candy eater, or pop drinker unless its sugar free, and feel when nuts are cooked, put into cereals, pies, what have you, they are ruined, I find them to taste best right off tree, untouched, and only one I care for roasted are peanuts, but then they are not really a nut at all.

And its kinda funny that a guy who hates sugar can be diabetic :p
Have been wondering how the hell that is for years.

What happened to the American Chestnut? :(

What happened to the American Chestnut? :(

It was outsourced to China.
