Soo.... it is too early to start talking about Black Friday 2019 yet?

The 2019 "Holiday" sales seem to start the day after Halloween nowadays, so I guess that the rumors and leaks should start coming out in a week or two. Crazy, no?

Retailers overuse the phrase "Black Friday" now. You see some retailers even advertising it in a month like July, and even more frequently once we hit November.

The "real" Black Friday is the roughly the week of Thanksgiving, lasting until "Cyber Monday" hits.

Deals and sales outside of that time frame are simply regular deals, IMO.

Well, this year I’ll be looking to finally upgrade my TV to one that is 4K 120hz or better. I’ve had the same Vizio for 12 years. It doesn’t even support 1080p, only 1080i

Ya know, that's the thing. The retailers are smart, and try to slide in a random doorbuster or two before Black Friday arrives to get you to start your shopping early. That's probably smart, too, as kids tend to be greedy a-holes in general and their lists to "Santa" keep growing until Christmas Eve. The longer the shopping season, the better for them.

Won't be much to see until the flyers are out.

You used to be able to find Black Friday ad leaks starting in early October. I guess that they've cracked down on those.

But, seriously, how many of us still need to spend weeks researching how to save $50 on a 50" HDTV nowadays? Most of us have grown up and got jobs now :)

It comes down to being more of the "thrill of the hunt"..........just updated for the 21st century.

Instead of killing lions for sport like some d-bag dentists do, we try and score a great deal on something we really don't need. :p

Usually around July I stop buying tech items and just make a list to look out for during BF. Only thing on the list so far is a 1TB SSD.

Ooh, I want one of those too. Let me know if you find a good name brand 1 TB SATA model for under $89 :)

I'd be down for some budget 1TB SSDs, if they were under $70, preferably under $65. Even if they're QLC. And A-Data even. :p

Wouldn't be too bad for budget gaming builds, rather than using a 2-3TB HDD.

Btw, they've had 2TB HDDs ("New") for $50 and 3TB HDDs ("New") for like $60-70. Not 7200RPM though.

OTOH, you can buy 7200RPM (?) Hitachi server pulls with 50K hours on them, for $30-40 for 2-3TB. That's temping for customer builds too, as long as it's understood that those drives could fail at any time, and they should ONLY be used for "Steam games" (which can be re-downloaded on a whim, should anything happen to the HDD.)

Alternatively, some decently-priced NVMe M.2 PCI-E 3.0 x4 SSDs would be nice, around the $65 mark too.

Right now, you can get the 660p Intel 1TB SSDs for $84 on sale, and surprisingly, the prices seem to be increasing on those, apparently, they are getting in-demand, and Newegg just recently has (or still has) an Adata XPG TLC 1TB NVMe x4 drive for $89.99. Step in the right direction, TLC 1TB NVMe for less than $100. (Intel 660p is QLC, so yeah, it SHOULD be cheaper, as it has less endurance too. And less performance than other comparable NVMe SSDs.)

I want a 2TB SSD that's decent. I'm not getting my hopes up though. Maybe it's me, but I find Black Friday to be a joke now. Now Cyber Monday...

Now Cyber Monday...

... is an even bigger joke. Black Friday used to be good, but now it's so spread out over the entire month that it's kind of a sham. Cyber Monday was never good, it's been awful since day one.

I want a decent storage drive, 6TB to 12TB, not a piece of junk Seagate. But I'm not too optimistic about finding any deals. The only hard drive "deals" now seem to be B&M closeouts and old refurb server pulls that pop up on ebay. I'd be shocked to see any really good HDD prices on BF/CM.

I seem to score better deals on Cyber Monday when it comes to tech. I'll bet you a tube of toothpaste that if there's deals on HDDs you will find it on CM.

Ya know, a pre-built AMD Ryzen 3700 gaming rig for under $1,000 might be nice. Finding one with a decent amount of memory, storage, and a good video card will be a tough find, though.

I'm probably dreaming, anyway. New items usually aren't discounted on Black Friday, ones that are about to be discontinued (2700X?) are.

There are always "some" great deals before Black Friday now. Best Buy routinely offers some early BF deals which is nice. No waiting in line. I'd prefer to shop early and then enjoy Thanksgiving.

I also noticed other stores doing staggered sales right before Black Friday, so I guess it's a new trend.

I'm always amused by people who dismiss BF deals....some deals ONLY come up once a year.

Wouldn't mind to replace my GPU. 2GB of vRAM isn't enough for newer games like RDR2 and the like.
It would have to be some great deal though - otherwise I will just buy a used card. I don't game much at all anymore.
Oh and 4TB HDDs for my datahoarding problem. Granted I can get used ones on eBay for $40

If I see something better than my 980 GTX for a reasonable price, I may grab it.
Noticed some newer games dont get the frame rates I like. Ghost Recon for example.
And I guess maybe I need ray tracing one of these days. Oh, and a faster CPU but only if its 1151. I dont feel like upgrading motherboards and stuff.
Come to think of it, I've always wanted a nice gaming laptop but I certainly dont need it.

Oh yeah, one of these days I want a really nice projector and a huge screen. Or I could paint my walls white.

Uhh, yeah, I don't think a 2GB GTX 950 is going to cut it for RDR2... maybe try to find a cheap RX 5700? The reference designs have been as cheap as $290. Maybe there will be some ebay bucks or a coupon code?

Edit: Or try to find a GTX 1660 Super for $200-ish, and use Vulkan API, and turn down the settings, and hope for 40FPS @ 1080P.

Edit: Or wait until after BF season, for AMD to release RX 5500 (XT) cards, for $150.
(You know that they're going to wait to release them until after BF, so as to be able to "drain the pipeline" of Polaris-based cards. Or so I suspect. Why continue to make those? Unless they still have excess wafer capacity at GF, even after fabbing I/O dies for Ryzen 3000-series and EPYC 2.)

Ya know, that's not a bad price for that system. I was really hoping for an 8 core CPU, though.

It's not a 3700(X) CPU, it's only a 3600, but everything else in that rig checks out. $899.99.

  • Ryzen 5 3rd Gen 3600 (3.60GHz)
  • AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT 8GB
  • 16GB DDR4 3000MHz
  • 512GB SSD
  • Windows 10 Home 64-bit
  • Gaming Keyboard & Mouse
  • VR Ready
