My wife noticed a girl walking a tiny puppy outside (downtown Atlanta mind you, no grass, just concrete) and she's dragging this poor puppy by it's leash. I mean literally dragging, it's paws were cut up from the concrete.
My wife stops her to talk to her, not bitching at her (wife's only 5'1" 110 lbs, not one to start a confrontation) and ends up asking if the girl would sell the puppy. She said no, but her neighbor had the puppy's sister and didn't have the time to care for it.
My wife went up to see the dog, who was living in filth in a one room, not one bedroom, one room, apartment. She immediately called me to ask if we could buy it.
I said I'd have to see it first. After work I hit the ATM machine to get the cash for the dog, I already knew I was gonna buy it (I'm a sucker for puppies in distress). She said she paid $250 for it and that's what she wanted. I told her I have $200 on me, take it or leave it. She took it.
This puppy is supposedely pure bred Basset Hound and the girl had papers to prove it. I'm calling the breeder that's listed on the papers tomorrow and giving her hell about not screening the people she sells to.
I didn't get home with the dog until about 8:30 pm and the local vet office is closed, but we're going there first thing in the morning.
Oh yeah, 2 month old Dixie (that's what we named her)
