I'm looking forward to an upgrade with better autofocusing, better higher ISO performance, perhaps better image stabilization, better ergonomics, and a better viewfinder. I'd like an improved Maxxum 7D -- let's hope that Sony understands that pedigree.

i think the 1.25x rumor is based on the physical size of the just annoucned 12.5 MP sensor. the imaging portion itself is 1.5x crop, but the associated packaging gives the whole chip a size which is 1.25x (28x22.3 mm) (diagonal of a 35 mm frame is 43.266 mm, diagonal of this whole chip is 35.795 mm, which is a ratio of 1.209)

If you want an idea of what the Advanced Amateur will be like, look at the Nikon D300... Expect similar features and results. There should be some significant improvements on the ISO side compared to the A100, but no one will really know 'til we get some hands on time with it..
At least one of these camera's has beens spotted in the wild at a recent Nikon event in Korea of all places, so in theory they shouldn't be too far from becoming a reality in the stores.
The big unknown right now is lenses... I really hope to hear some good news on this front, as this will insure the Alpha system is a viable solution for now and into the future...
Time will tell... And that time should be within a couple weeks...
