Why not include a rice cooker with the console/entertainment center and it can take care of 2/3's of what humans need..
Wait, do you think they would actually do that? I love rice so if I could get a playstation, DVD recorder, Rice-Cooker combo I'd be happy as a clam. You think I could get them to throw in a small rotisserie so I can cook hotdogs and the occasional pheasant?

As people are less computer savy then most of us here!
It it just easier for most of them to do dvd recording from the pc, and have a tivo like thing from a vcr tv type of box then a pc and connections to it.
