I'm curious if Nikon will but the same CAM3500 AF sensor as the D3 and D300, or if they put in a full-frame AF sensor. I have a feeling that full-frame AF coverage will come with the D3s and D3Xs, though.
if the D3X release goes anything like the D3's, then production samples should be in the hands of pro photogs shooting the Olympics.
I want them to release a D90 at Photokina!

I'm confused. What do you mean by a "full-frame AF sensor"? The AF module in the D3 is a "full-frame AF sensor".

the CAM3500 AF sensor is designed for an APS-C image area. on the D300 it fits perfectly, but the AF points are clustered really close in the center on the D3.

apparently sony has to stitch together two (or more) pieces to make a sensor that large (fab equipment generally only makes chips to a certain size, which is why the canon 1D uses a 1.3x crop, that's the largest sensor that, at the time, could be made in one piece). it's an expensive process. canon, apparently, has developed it's own equipment to handle making 135 sensors in just one piece.
Nikon designs their own sensors, but Sony manufactures them.Originally posted by: AndrewR
I'm not entirely convinced that the sensor is for Nikon since they have produced their own sensors for their professional cameras to date, haven't they?

So will there be a Zeiss wide-angle worthy of the name to go with that?
