Interesting development and possible foreshadowing of the next Nexus manufacturer? Google has stated Sony has done more for AOSP than anyone else. This marks the first device outside of Nexus to be added to the AOSP. I have laughed at Sony and dismissed their Android offerings in the past but if this pans out, Sony will move up to the top tier Android vendor status in my eyes. It's definitely the right step and hope Sony management and legal follow through and release all the necessary drivers to open source. I'm very much looking forward to the next Nexus and hope Sony is chosen as the vendor.

This could be a smart move on Sony's part and give them an edge against Samsung and HTC. A lot of people have said that manufacturers should do this.
