Sony Wega with an ATI-ALL-IN-WONDER

Ok I've been posting about connecting my PC to a Wega lately. Here's my next question.

I finally got the Diamond ViperII to work on the wega. What i had to do was have it connected to a monitor, and then after it boots connect to the TV, and then I had to set the resolution to either 640x480 (for both CRT and TV output), or I can have it at 800x600 when only outputting to the TV, otherwise the system crashes.

Now my question is this. I want to get the ATI-all in wonder 8500 64meg card. What are some issues I have to worry about? Namely do I have to have it connected to a monitor first like I have for the Diamond Viper II (recognizably a very old card) (I haven't tried booting at 800x600 after having switched the output setting from output CRT to output TV though...goofy thing is, you have to have it connected to a monitor first to change that setting...now that it is set I guess it might work just booting to the TV). Also can I get better resolution than 800x600 with the ATI-All in wonder to the TV. I was under the impression that HDTVs had better resolution than that. I also think one of the ATI specs said HDTV compatible, does that solve my problem?

Does anybody have a system like I want to setup, already setup. I want to use my Wega as the monitor, because I want to sit on my couch editting home movies, not on a stool. Thanks for everybody's help...very helpful guys.

My Radeon 64 comes up with a box the first time the drivers load asking you if you want to use it on monitor or TV. After that I would assume that is what it defaults to. I don't know if you can do that the first time with it going directly to a TV. Probably not since you need to use a monitor at least get past the point where you install the driver.

As for HD, the chip on board can handle outputting an HDTV decoded signal to an HDTV set, but the signal has to come from somewhere. That usually means an HDTV tuner card. (Pretty much all video cards these days claim HDTV output, they just don't do the tuning.)
