Well we went looking around for a new flat screen TV today.

At Best Buy, really impressed with:

Sony KV32FS100
Toshiba 32AF43

But leaning more towards the Sony...

Does anyone have any advice on things that I should look for, any opinions/horror stories about either (in particular the Sony! :D ), or any recommendations of ones with just as good (or better) picture in the sub $700 price range? Thanks in advance for any comments that you give! :)

Ya know, I think that this is the first time that I've seen a TV topic posted in the Video forum! Most people just post them in Off Topic, although it would probably make more sense to put them in here.

Anyway, both the Sony and Toshiba are great TV's. I would also recommend looking at the Panasonic Tau CT-32SX12, too.

Both are great tvs but the Toshiba might last longer for you, as I've heard Sony's colors might start to fade faster after a couple years of usage.

Not sure about how long the colours last, but usually it seems like Sony's have nicer colour saturation vs. other brands. If It were up to me, I'd get the Sony probably.

Schadenfroh,

How long have you had your TV, and have you experienced any "color fading" as was suggested in a previous post?

I have a 27" Toshiba. I chose that because I thought the picture was better than the Sony. But, the speakers turned out to be horrible and I wound up having to hook it up to home theater speakers. If I had to do it again, I would buy the Sony.

i have had it for about 8 months, i have not noticed any colour fading or any other problems. it runs as good as the day i bought it. but i watch it only about 3 hours a week at the very most. i used to use it alot more, before i got bored with my xbox.

I've have a Sony now, used to have a Toshiba and it wasn't even close..... the Sony is a far superior TV. Costs more, but worth it.

I've had my Sony Wega 32" TV for two years now, and the colors look just as good as when I bought it. I've been using it about 7 hours a day on average, too.

Just curious why you'd pay an extra $100-300 for a "flat screen" TV... who gives a flying cow turd if the screen is flat? They're not any smaller or lighter... I just got an RCA 32 inch "regular" TV for $225 on clearance... I was looking at other 32 inch TVs... about $300 for most others, $400-500 for flat screens, and $3000-4000 for plasma.

You know, Jeff kinda of has a point. If you're going to spend the extra $300 bucks on a 32" flat screen TV, you might as well spend another $400 and get an HDTV model. It seems kinda silly to be spending $700 on a TV that will be obsolete 5 years from now.

i wanted the best 27" tv i could get, becuase anything larger would be very hard to carry up the stairs (not that the 27" was a cake walke) that and anything hevier than a 27" would not be supported by what i was planning on putting it on. that is the reason i payed the extra to get the flat screen, best at the size. i went from a 19" sanyo from either the late 80s or the extreme early nintys to a Flat Screen Trinitron. so that was a big upgrade for me

Damn, you don't know anybody who could help you carry a TV up the stairs? I'd rather spend $300 on a 32 inch TV and $100 on delivery than $700 on a 27 inch just so I could carry it myself.

But if you're happy with it, that's what's important.

i have a 27" panasonic flat and best buy (like compusa) sells a comprehensive repair warrenty past teh manufacturers so fasding really isnt a big issue. sony is usually over priced for what you get samsung makes the nicest tvs IMO but they can be spendy, and teh picture is much nicer on a flat as apposed toa tube you can ask your self "why get a flat monitor" because the pictures really are nicer

The higher price for Sony is because of Sony's Trinitron.
All others - Panasonic, Toshiba, etc are using invar shadow mask tube.
If the price difference is small, let's say less than 10%, I'd take Sony.

I've got a 27" Sony Wega and I'm loving it. I had a 20" Sony Wega before and I loved it except for no Svideo or Component video. Cost more than the Panasonic Tau's or Toshiba's but when it comes to TV's I stick with Sony.
