Sony Vaio

Back in the day Sony was well known for it's Vaio notebooks being overpriced and unreliable. I haven't kept up with them in the last two-three years however so my info is out of date. Have things changed at all? Do they still overheat? Do they still have the same cheap chassis that bends and brakes?

I have the opportunity to nab a brand new Vaio SR for 35% off. I'm trying to decide if after a year it will be falling apart.

Love my vaio SZ-650. 2 years old and still has pretty good hardware. Expensive? sure, but offered top of the line specs that not many other manufacturers had a the time.

I'd say go for it if the price is competitive. I've had 4-5 vaio notebooks between myself and my immediate family, never had a problem with any of them. Its all in how you take care of em, imo.

I dunno if they were always junk, I have a Vaio I bought in March 2002 that still works, but I don't really use it anymore...

Sony Vaio's may have a lot of negatives due to Sony proprietariness, but I would not call them junk.
