A few years back i purchased a p4 1.8ghz vaio. I've been meaning to replace it for quite some time now, but since it's only being used as a server to store files and talk back to medisoft, i've neglected it and just pretended nothing is wrong. After a few hours of operation, the computer seems to 'skip' or freeze. for example if you moved the mouse across the screen every say 2 seconds the mouse would stop moving and then move again. It becomes normal again after rebooting. It's not just the mouse or the monitor, because you can actually see things pause. Downloads will stop, pages will stop loading, documents will freeze, then work again after 2 seconds... over and over again.

I haven't tinkered with it enough to know what the problem is, the psu seems to be getting insanely loud at times, but from what i can tell you cannot repalce it due to some wierd welding they did on it (i think, i can't open it up because its really necessary to keep it on at almost all times). my other guess is that its the motherboard.

This problem has been surfacing since the day i actually bought this pos for the clinic, but since we used it as a server i disregarded it and just let it be. has anyone else had these 'hiccups' or 'skips' on any of their rigs?
