installing windows 8.1 over windows 7, for speed.

intel t6600 with 4gb and intel graphics

intel 530 SSD

i know x32 and x64 have different environment clutter and processes and ram limitations.

but i just need opinions on the best overall performance for the most basic tasks.

Negligible, but x64 will take you all the way to 4, and will cover even the most remote possibility that you would upgrade.
On a side note, I would be surprised if there is a noticeable difference in speed going from 7 to 8.1 in an SSD environment, but that could just be me being late to join the club.

If there is I haven't noticed it. My sons computer is Win7 x64 and mine is 8.1 x64. We both use a Crucial M500 256 on a SATA3 connection.
He is only 7 so maintenance, installation of programs, updates, ect are up to me. I cannot tell a difference in speed between his computer and mine. His even boots a little quicker because his uses just the SSD while mine has 2 x external drives and 3 x internal drives that the BIOS needs to account for while booting.
